Hopefully so, but the fact of the matter is, this category 5 hurricane (well... category 4 at landfall, category 2-3 in terms of its effects on New Orleans proper) was predicted VERY well. 60 hours out, the forecast was already almost perfect. Where improvement in forecasting ability will come into play will be with storms like Ophelia, but it will be a very, very long time before we can predict storms more accurately than Katrina was predicted.
